Sous les Cendres du Mekong (2021) is the graduation film of Emeline Courcier, a docu-fiction retracing the mother-daughter bond within her Vietnamese family from Laos.
Somewhere between staging and re-enactment, she struggles to tell their story by establishing a dialogue between her mother and her grandmother in order to recover the memories of Laos and to engrave the family history to the great History.
By confronting these two narratives in a closed-door setting between three women, three generations, the artist realises the absences and incoherences in her own genealogy and loses herself in her own identity through a story of reincarnation.
